Johannesburg (Reuters)-South Africa early launches new COVID-19 variant on Saturday as travel bans and restrictions were imposed as new Omicron variants could harm other sectors of tourism and the economy. He said he was punished for his advanced ability to detect.

South Africa has world-class epidemiologists and scientists who have succeeded in detecting new coronavirus variants and their variants early in the life cycle. The Omicron subspecies was first discovered in South Africa and subsequently in Belgium, Botswana, Israel and Hong Kong.

“This latest travel ban is similar to punishing South Africa for its advanced genomic sequencing and its ability to detect new variants more quickly,” said the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

“Good science should be praised and not punished,” he said in a statement.

Many countries havetily announced travel restrictions to South Africa and other countries in the region on Fridays and Saturdays.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said new variants have been detected in other countries, but the global response to those countries is “totally different” from the case in southern Africa.

The new variant https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/what-we-know-about-covid-19-variant-detected-south-africa-2021-11-26 first on Wednesday It was announced. A team of South African scientists said they had detected mutations that could evade the body’s immune response and increase infectivity.

On Friday, the World Health Organization named it Omicron and designated it as a “variant of concern” (the most serious level), saying preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection.

South Africa’s Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor said in a statement, “Our immediate concern is the damage these restrictions are causing to families, travel, tourism and business.”

The government added that it had worked with countries imposing travel bans to persuade them to reconsider.

On Friday, WHO went to https://www.reuters.com/world/who-cautions-against-imposed-travel-restrictions-due-new-variant-2021-11-26 countries, they said, “Risk-based science. A variant, saying that you should take a “target approach”.
