“What if this comes out” by Sophie Gonzalez and Kale Dietrick (Wednesday book)

Saturday is a hot and new American boy band preparing for their first overseas tour. The four members can be even more excited if personal freedom is granted. Their identities have been trimmed to maintain the carefully curated personality assigned to them. At all stages of album release and tour, Saturday members are subject to even more restrictions until they are quarantined in a hotel room whenever they are not actively working. Are 18-year-olds Ruben, Zack, John, and Angels ready to solve the problem on their own?

“If This Get’s Out” is a richly fleshed-out entanglement that often navigates the insidious industry. Co-authors Sophie Gonzalez and Kale Dietrick create adorable characters with friendly nuances, even though most people can only dream.

The novel alternates perspectives as Zack and Ruben reveal their deep charm to each other. Ruben knew he was gay and had been waiting for years for Saturday’s management company to allow him to go public. Zack still agrees with the sexuality he has previously determined, but is far less experienced than Ruben in navigating the world as a queer. Their fledgling emotions are quickly tested under constant scrutiny of fame.
