Veterans Day: Remembering those who served in World War II. My mother was included.

When my mother passed away, we followed her wishes. There was no cremation, no wake, only a funeral mass. There was no coffin with a flag to honor her mother, no taps on her mother’s grave, no soldiers to fold the flag she loved.

Decades before it was considered cool to be part of the “great generation”, years before anyone coined the term, my mother said her service in World War II died long before he gained attention. Millions were still alive until her death in 1978. 16 million who served in that war.
