State Rep. Dustin Burroughs, a Lubbock Republican who is chairman of the Texas House Select Committee on Investigations, said the families will be shown the video in person, which will not include audio.

The footage will show the time period inside the school between the time the shooter entered the classroom and the time law enforcement broke down the door more than an hour later.

According to an abridged DPS timeline released on June 21, 2022, one hour, 14 minutes and eight seconds passed from the time law enforcement first entered the school to the time the shooter was killed.

Burroughs’ office sent a brief statement Saturday ahead of the expected release.

“Chairman Burroughs and his colleagues on the committee have stated many times that respect for the families of the victims and members of the Uvalde community is of the highest priority.” The commission also promised that the video and the report would not be released until family members had a chance to see both. To that end, the committee will release the report and corridor video (via email) to the media at the same time as the meeting of the “families” begins at 2:00 pm CT tomorrow (Sunday). This meeting will be closed to the press,” wrote Matt Crowe, a spokesman for Burrows.

This release comes just days after the Austin American-Statesman unexpectedly released the video with audio on Wednesday, July 12.

On Twitter, Rep. Burroughs expressed his displeasure with the early release of the video.

His frustration was echoed by Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin and members of the victim’s families, as well as DPS.
