Powerful Plano home explosion sends debris flying, damages neighboring home

PLANO, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the incident Explosion at home in Plano Tuesday around 9 p.m

It happened at a home on Shantara Lane near Plano West High School.

Neighbors reported smelling gas shortly after the explosion.

Atmos Energy cut off the gas to the home. Their crews were on the scene for hours Thursday, inspecting the home and tagging gas lines next door.

The company says the site is secure and working as expected.

No one was home at the time of the explosion.

According to people who live in the neighborhood, the explosion caused a lot of noise and shattered the windows of the houses on the street. It was so powerful that debris flew into the street and caused extensive damage to a neighboring house.

Neighbors are thankful no one was hurt.

“I could be walking here with my dog ​​when the explosion happened,” said Dr. Ali Shirvani.

Residents in surrounding homes spent much of Thursday cleaning up broken glass and wood chips from their yards.

“We have double doors in the backyard that split and open,” Susan Bruce said. “Wow. I mean, that was a blast.”

Plano Fire Rescue says the Fire Marshal is still investigating the incident.
