San Antonio – A man died after police in San Antonio said he lost control of his car, hit a tree and rolled overnight in a shopping center parking lot.
The crash occurred at around 2:23 am on the I-35 and South Cross.
The man’s vehicle was heading south on I-35 as he turned the main lane in an attempt to pass traffic. At that time, his car got off the access road and he lost control, police said.
Later, officials said his car struck an oak tree and a large sign in the parking lot of Alamo Square Shopping Center before it fell.
When police arrived, they said a 28-year-old man was unresponsive and trapped in a car. According to police, a female passenger was slightly injured and was out of the car and was treated with EMS.
The man was separated from the vehicle by paramedics but was sentenced to death at the scene.
Alcohol was not the cause of the collision and no other vehicle was involved.
Authorities closed the south-facing lanes and frontage roads of the I-35 while the crew was working on-site.
