Nobody has a family style like Pharrell

Off-White’s Fall/Winter 2022 presentation, the first since the death of designer Virgil Abloh, took place earlier this week. An Abloh affair always produces famous, stylish friends on and off the runway, and this was no exception. Attendees this time included Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Givenchy designer Matthew Williams, Luka Sabbat – and Pharrell Williams, his wife Helen Lasichanh and their son Rocket. On a night that wasn’t short on next-level style, Pharrell and his family hit the spot with some of the night’s most memorable looks.

Pharrell wore a belted trench coat, white trousers and shiny black brogues with “Special Events” printed on the side in Abloh’s beloved Helvetica. There were also clever useful details in the game – drawstrings on the shoes, a cargo pocket on the sleeve. And of course he wore his custom jeweled Tiffany sunglasses, his current accessory. Meanwhile, Lasichanh donned a casual white suit printed with a meandering tonal pattern. But Rocket might have paired both his mom and dad with just the right pair of baggy blue jeans, Balenciaga sneakers, and the cream of the crop: a select Off-White Letterman jacket. The graphics-driven piece is a bit low-cut. Off-White’s latest collections are full of elegant tailoring and haute couture, but the graphic-heavy threads (often featuring diagonal strikes and bold logos) are undoubtedly synonymous with Abloh’s earlier and seminal work. This jacket could even have dated from 2013, a nice homage to the late designer’s streetwear roots.

This family fashion moment was not an isolated one either, as the family has had a pretty stylish year to date. In January, the trio attended the Chanel and Kenzo shows and posed together at each one. There was a father-son parka moment at Kenzo. And on Chanel night, a more monochromatic palette plus what appears to be a tailored Chanel cardigan for Rocket. (Perhaps a perk, since your father is a longtime employee at the French luxury house.)

Pharrell is no stranger to fashion week and it’s a pleasure to see him pose alongside his wife and son. Rocket has two fiercely stylish parents, and it’s clear that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. It all reminded me of writer Michael Chabon’s excellent GQ essay about his son’s fashion week experience, which also includes an off-white appearance. Only time will tell if Rocket’s personal style can match his father’s. (No pressure, Rocket.) But right now, Pharrell and his family are looking great and having fun together — and when it comes to dressing for fashion week, you really can’t ask for more.
