NASCAR Verizon 200 at Brickyard: Tyler Reddick wins in extra time

It NASCAR Cup Series finished her July schedule on Sunday with Verizon 200 at Brickyardwhere Tyler Reddick eyed Ross Chastain with more than half a second to secure the win in extra time.

The 2.5-mile, 160-lap race returns for the first time since 2020 and only the second in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s 14-lap road configuration.

Here are the top moments from Indiana:

Green!

It was five wide going into Turn 1, which didn’t work out well for anyone involved, especially Justin Haley, who made an early lap and had to go pit road.

Meanwhile, Reddick led the opening lap, while Chase Briscoe and Austin Cindric fought for second place.

Around they go

Chaos broke out early, as Chastain spun at Turn 1, followed by Denny Hamlin spun around Turn 6. Both riders were able to continue, but they dropped back down to 29th and 32nd, respectively.

Chaos!

Things started wildly and stayed that way as the first stage continued.

Ford No. Chris Buescher’s 17 caught fire as he carried it to the pit road at the end of the stage.

Elsewhere, Chase Elliott circled into Turn 1 and across the sidewalk.

Heat

Briscoe won the first stage, chose to stay on track and earn some stage points and pick up playoff points. He was followed by Ryan Blaney, Joey Logano, William Byron and Elliott.

Briscoe went to pit road from leading the race, while Blaney chose to stay out and inherit the top spot.

Elsewhere, Kevin Harvick was in trouble again at Turn 1, spinning ahead of traffic thanks to Alex Bowman and being hit by Hamlin as he started the second stage.

Horrible turn

AJ Allmendinger fell into a sand trap, while Harrison Burton and Cole Custer were both thrown at Turn 1.

Toyota 1-2-3 in Stage 2

Christopher Bell took second stage winfollowed by Kyle Busch and Bubba Wallace.

Meanwhile, Reddick and Bell race against each other during the third and final stage.

Yellow flag

Watch out for the 22 laps remaining in this one, as Ty Dillon took a heavy blow from Kyle Larson, who lost his brakes entering Turn 1, into the right side of his car. The two drivers got out of their car.

home stretching

The green glad returns with 18 laps remaining, as the racers pull out all the stops to gain an edge over their rivals. Reddick led 3.2 seconds over Blaney with just 10 laps to go.

Hot on the tail

Elliott plunged inside Blaney into Turn 1 to take second as the final few laps drew near.

Late restart

Bell blew out the right front tire at the front, and debris from his car scattered all over the track, causing a restart in the remaining five laps.

Around they go

The court turned at Turn 1, as Reddick and Elliott were in the front row fighting for the win. Busch, Briscoe and Byron get caught in the crossfire and circle around as well.

Then, Erik Jones was twisted at Turns 3 and 4, and then Austin Dillon was spun into a sand trap by Martin Truex Jr. to issue a warning flag again.

Winner!

Reddick passed Chastain to take the top spot in extra time and seal the win.
