Nadal beats Djokovic in the quarter-final thriller at the French Open

PARIS – Rafael Nadal beat rival Novak Djokovic 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4) in a monumental match in the quarterfinals of the French Open to get one step closer to his 14th championship on the track. Grand clay. Slam tournament and 22nd major overall trophy.

The match began shortly after 9pm on Tuesday and ended more than four hours later, past 1am on Wednesday.

Nadal ended the candidacy of first seed Djokovic for a second consecutive title in Paris. He also made sure Djokovic followed him in the 20-goal Slam count.

Nadal improved to 110-3 for his Roland Garros career. Two of those defeats took place against Djokovic, even in last year’s semifinals.

This clash was the 59th of his career, more so than two other men who clashed in the Open era. Nadal reduced Djokovic’s lead to 30-29.

Nadal turns 36 this Friday, when he will face third seed Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.
