Na resigns as a touring member after joining the Saudi league

DUBLIN, Ohio – Kevin Na became the first player to publicly resign from the PGA Tour on Saturday, four days after the Saudi-funded LIV Golf Invitational was included on the course for next week’s debut in the new series.

Na is one of six players who have resigned, according to a person familiar with his decisions. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the players did not say so. Na announced her decision on social networks.

Na is the 33rd in the world and among the top 50 players to sign up for Saudi Riches to play in Greg Norman’s new 48-field field league in 54 holes and up to $ 25 million in prizes for each event. .

The first one starts next Friday outside of London.

“I would like the freedom to play wherever I want and exercising my right as a free agent gives me that opportunity,” he wrote. “However, to remain a PGA Tour player, I must relinquish my right to make these decisions about my career.”

Announcement

Na is a five-time PGA Tour winner with $ 37.9 million in revenue in her career.

The PGA Tour requires members to play 15 times a year and historically grants launches for at least three overseas tournaments a year. However, he denied the launches for the LIV Golf Invitational for his threat as a series of eight tournaments, five of them in the United States.

The tour does not grant releases for events held in North America. The tour said those who played outside of London next week at the LIV event will face a discipline they did not specify, presumably losing their membership.

One of the reasons for players to resign is because of the older ones. USGA has not said whether players who sign up for LIV Golf will be able to play the US Open June 16-19 at The Country Club. Although the tour does not run the majors, the ratio is such that the majors could comply with the regulations of the PGA Tour if a player is suspended.

Announcement

“I hope the current policies change and I can play again on the PGA Tour,” Na wrote.
