Elon Musk reassured Tesla’s commitment to China and said automakers would continue to expand their investment in China.
Musk’s comments were provided in a pre-recorded Q & A stream at the World Internet Conference hosted by China’s Cyberspace Administration.
This is the second time Musk has greatly complemented the country that is essential to electric vehicle companies by calling it “digitalization of global leaders.” In less than two weeks, Musk said in another stream pre-recorded at the World New Energy Vehicle Conference, Chinese automakers were “the most competitive in the world.”
“My frank observation is that China is spending a lot of resources and efforts to apply the latest digital technologies in various industries, including the automotive industry, making China a world leader in digitalization.” Musk said in the latest video. “Tesla will continue to expand its investment and R & D efforts in China.”
Tesla has received a lot of negative news and is trying to improve its reputation in China. The company faces a scrutiny of privacy and a small number of recall regulations in China. Beijing reportedly restricted or banned the use of Tesla’s electric vehicles by some states and military personnel.
In his speech, Musk called for data protection and specified the type of data stored locally.
“We are pleased that many laws and regulations have been announced at Tesla to enhance data management,” Musk said.
“Tesla has set up a data center in China to localize all the data generated from the business here, including production, sales, service and charging. All personally identifiable information is transferred abroad. It is a security store in China without being. Very rarely, for example, an order for spare parts from abroad is data that has been approved for international transfer. “
The company started construction on a major plant in Shanghai in 2019. Tesla sold 44,264 Chinese-made vehicles in August. Of these, 31,379 are for export. This was an increase from 32,968 Chinese cars sold in July and 33,155 sold in June.
