London (Reuters) – 91-year-old former Formula One Bernie Ecclestone sticks to one thing on Thursday after being offered the role of advisor by the new head of the ski governing body-he takes him to the slopes. Will not go.
FIS Chairman and Billionaire Johann Elias told reporters before the opening round of the Alpine Ski World Cup in Soelden, Austria, that he had approached Eccleston on joining the advisory board.
Ecclestone told Reuters from his Swiss home that he was busy and open-minded.
“I said it depends on what you want me to do and what I can do to help,” Briton said. “I haven’t heard from him lately.
“You won’t see me skiing, that’s for sure.”
Elias, the former boss of the head of a sporting goods company, has been nominated by the British ski organization GB Snowsport as FIS Chairman and approved by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Ecclestone, who said he also supported him, was a regular at Kitzbuhel and a longtime supporter of celebrity ski racing there.
In Formula One, Britons were notorious for promoting sports by relying on race promoters, teams, sponsors, and the media, rather than the commercial rights holders themselves investing money in marketing.
Liberty Media-owned sports currently have an active marketing department.
Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” series is also known to have attracted a large number of new fans, especially in the United States.
Red Bull championship leader Max Verstappen made a headline last week when he said he wasn’t participating because he felt some rivals were counterfeit.
Ecclestone said he had never seen it.
“I know I’m a realist and not very realistic, so I know how these people act, think, and act, many of them.” He said.
“And if you see what you know is completely wrong, maybe I’ll be like Max and a little upset.”
However, Briton said he was fascinated by the close battle between Verstappen and Mercedes’ seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton this season.
“So far, Lewis has become Paul and Lewis has been leading from start to finish. That’s it. No one is excited about it. I now see all the practice and all the races. I want to, “he said.
“If you tell me, I have to sell the house and spend all the money on one of them, what do you do?” I because something can happen I think I’ll probably go to roulette and play. “
