Metro Health will administer COVID-19 booster doses of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines at the COVID-19 Vaccine Pop-up Clinic starting Wednesday.
The announcement comes after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends providing booster immunity to Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccinated people.
Metro Health currently offers only Pfizer vaccine boosters at the Alamodome Drive-Through Clinic and Pop-up Clinic. No reservation is required on the Alamodome or Metro Health pop-up sites.
Regarding the mixing and matching of COVID vaccines to booster doses, eligible individuals can choose the vaccine to receive as a booster dose at the pop-up clinic.
On October 20, the FDA approved booster shots of the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, as well as vaccine mixing and matching.
On October 21, the CDC Advisory Board on Immunization Practice made recommendations for moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster vaccines in specific populations.
Booster shots of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in specific populations were recommended by the CDC on September 24th.
For individuals vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the following groups are eligible for booster shots at least 6 months after the first series.
65 years of age or older.
18 years or older living in a long-term care facility.
18 years or older with underlying disorder.
Over 18 years of age working or living in a high-risk environment.
The CDC also recommended booster shots for individuals aged 18 years and older who were vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 and were vaccinated more than two months ago.
At noon on Friday, Metro Health Assistant Director Dr. Anita Kurian will hold a live town hall meeting on Facebook to answer questions about booster vaccination.
The event will be livestreamed on the SA Metro Health and AARPTexas Facebook pages.
