Heavyweight boxer arrested for ‘trafficking 22 tons of cocaine worth $1 billion to US’

GORAN GOGIC has been charged with trafficking $1 billion worth of cocaine through the United States.

A former boxer from Montenegro was arrested Sunday night when he tried to board a flight from Miami to Zurich.

Gogic, 43, was indicted by a grand jury. New York After the largest drug bust in US history.

He was charged with three counts of Maritime Drug Control Act violations, plus a count of conspiracy.

Each of the four counts carries a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Gozik could even face a life sentence after being charged with trafficking more than 22 tons of cocaine from a commercial cargo ship in Philadelphia three years ago.

Prosecutors alleged that the cocaine was shipped from Europe to Colombia via US ports.

It is also claimed that Gozik managed the logistics of the plan and coordinated with all sides on behalf of his cartel back in Europe.

Following Gogic’s arrest and indictment, U.S. Attorney Breon Pierce said: Victory for law enforcement.

“Meticulous planning by the defendant and his co-conspirators failed to take into account that the efforts of federal agents had wrought this bodily harm on the organizations and individuals responsible for mass cocaine distribution. .”

“The seizure of $1 billion worth of cocaine was a major blow to Gogic’s criminal network, but none was as heavy as last night’s arrest,” said DEA Special Agent Frank Tarantino III.

“As this case demonstrates, criminal gangs use a variety of means to profit from the sale of poisons.

“Twenty tonnes of toxic substances were seized en route from Colombia to Europe through hard work by local, state and federal law enforcement.

“Gorgic’s arrest underscores law enforcement’s commitment to bringing those responsible for causing the most harm to our community to justice.”

Gogic boxed professionally 27 times as a heavyweight between 2001 and 2012.

He put on the gloves with a record of 21 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties.

The former fighter last stepped into the ring in July 2012 when he beat the little-known Romanian Libiu Ungleanu 2-17 in Germany.
