“Everything we experienced made us realize that in reality everything could collapse in front of us,” Liberatore said. “Here you have lived in a melted world. Then we have a moment of instability and horror. We no longer touch the ground.”
Still, the collection provides a hopeful message. She was inspired by the figurative paintings of four Christian evangelists as lions, eagles, bulls and angels in the apse of St. Michael’s Church in Ferrara. Originally built in the Middle Ages and reconstructed during the Renaissance, the accused church is a permanent home of the work of the designer’s father, the sculptor Bruno Liberatore.
“I first saw it stand up and change the pace completely,” the designer said. “The great thing about this new adventure was to buy the Church of St. Michael in Ferrara with my family and create a cultural center where art and fashion merge.”
Missoni’s new fashion page
The Missoni brand turned over the creative page and tapped a longtime member of Angela Missoni’s team to replace her as creative director.
The transition to a more youthful hip atmosphere was quickly revealed in Alberto Caliri’s first collection. There was still plenty of great colorful knitwear for longtime lovers of the brand, such as long floor sweep dresses, sexy crop tops and jumpsuits. But the silhouette was bolder than usual, obviously younger and easier to imagine at the hiptest beach parties.
