Mercedes-Benz unveiled its new EQS SUV on Tuesday, the first all-electric SUV ever built in the U.S. market.

The vehicle is the sibling of the EQS sedan released last year, but it has seats for seven people and a taller, more bubbly attitude. According to Mercedes-Benz, it is expected to compete with the Tesla Model X and BMW iX.

Like the sedan, the EQS SUV has a state-of-the-art interior with three screens that cover almost the entire instrument panel. The screen is covered by a single 56-inch curved glass surface, one of which is a passenger screen that is invisible to the driver.

“With the luxury EQS sedan and the EQE executive sports sedan, Mercedes-Benz has entered a new electric era in the upper market segments,” the company said in a statement.

The company said that the SUV will begin production at Mercedes-Benz in the Tuscaloosa, Alabama factory in the coming months and will arrive in US stores by the end of 2022. US production is part of the German carmaker’s plans to produce eight new electric vehicles in seven areas on three continents.

Mercedes-Benz did not release a price tag for the EQS SUV, but it is likely to rise to $ 100,000. EQS sedan models start at approximately $ 102,000 and $ 126,000.

The EQS SUV, like the sedan, will initially be offered in two models, including the “580 4MATIC” version, with two electric motors of 536 horsepower and 633 lb-ft of torque.

Mercedes-Benz did not release the planned electric range of the US EQS SUV, but the sedan version can reach 350 miles on a single charge, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The EQS SUV has a number of safety and comfort features, including the latest Mercedes-Benz driver assistance system, which can control parts of the vehicle when enabled, such as acceleration and braking.

Like the sedans, the EQS SUV has its own fresh-air scent of its own, called the “6th Humor Mimosa”. Mercedes-Benz says it is “a scent that smells of sensuality,” designed specifically for vehicles.
