San Antonio – Hundreds of meals on wheels San Antonio volunteers have delivered more than 2,000 Thanksgiving meals to families in San Antonio and Bexar County for the second time since the start of the pandemic.
Ariana Barber, director of communications and marketing for nonprofits, said: “During the holidays, it’s even harder to deal with, so go there on Thanksgiving days, especially if you live in San Antonio, to let people know they care about them. I am trying to do it. “
She said this was the second hot meal they had served since the beginning of the pandemic.
“So what we did every day is now a special treat until we get back to delivering meals five days a week,” Barbour said. “We have over 1,800 pounds of turkey breast. We ship over 2000 meals. Normally, we serve 4,500 people, but fortunately most of them are with their families. It’s like having a Thanksgiving. “
CEO Vinsen Faris said he was grateful to see the family unite again.
“To hear these people we call and say,’Hey, do you want that meal?'” They said, “No, it’s like my granddaughter is coming. My son is here. Will come, “Farris said. “We have more families this year because we want the end of the pandemic, but they are, and it’s very special.”
Despite the reduced number of meals served at this Thanksgiving, Faris said the need remains great.
“This Thanksgiving offers less meals than the last four Thanksgiving,” says Farris. “That’s not the case, but I can’t say that the number of meals on wheels has decreased. The number of people watching every day has increased by about 2,500. The need is there.”
The organization hopes that this time next year, the building outside Dunbury and Nacogdoches Loop 410 will be fully functional in a newer and larger facility.
