NEW YORK – Mary J. Blige’s 2022 is going pretty well. His new album dropped to the top 10 of Billboard’s R & B / Hip-Hop album chart, and appeared on the Super Bowl half-time show. She has now been selected for a concert like no other.
Blige will host a one-night live performance to celebrate his life and music that will be available to stream exclusively on Apple Music in more than 165 countries. The concert is scheduled for July 27 at 22:00 EDT / 19:00 PDT.
“The last year of my particular career has been an exciting one,” Blige said in a statement. “It’s amazing to take this opportunity to celebrate, reflect and spend an intimate night with my fans through this platform that Apple Music offers me.”
Blige’s Apple Music Live concert will be held at New York’s United Palace Theater in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Fans of the greater New York region have the opportunity to sign up for free to have a chance to be in the room when it happens.
The concert coincides with the 30th anniversary of his acclaimed debut album “What’s the 411” and Apple Music Hits will dedicate the entire day to Blige, including exclusive programming, music and interviews showcasing key moments of his career.
“What is 411?” – with the songs “You Remind Me” and the version of “Sweet Thing” by Rufus and Chaka Khan – was named by Rolling Stone among the 500 best albums of all time, reaching number 271. The album is certified three times platinum, with more than 3 million copies sold.
The digital concert series had its inaugural performance in May with Harry Styles as the spearhead of the campaign, followed by a live performance by Lil Durk in June.
Blige’s career includes eight multiplatinum albums, nine Grammy Awards, two Oscar nominations, two Golden Globe nominations and a SAG nomination. Her latest album is “Good Morning Gorgeous” and this year she was seen on the small screen in “Power Book II: Ghost”.
