London (Reuters) – Stars and cast members walked the pink carpet in London on Monday for the premiere of the movie version of the musical “Everyone is talking about Jamie.”

The musical is based on the true story of Jamie Campbell, a 16-year-old boy from Sheffield, a small English town dreaming of becoming a drag queen. At the heart of the story is the strong relationship between Jamie and her mother.

Rookie Max Harwood played an honorable role and told Reuters that the story was told around the world was important for strange expressions.

“It’s important that the queer story is universal and not abandoned as a queer movie,” Harwood said. “Everyone can be involved in growing up and trying to find their place in the world.”

The musical was held at the Crucible Theater in Sheffield in 2017 and was taken to the West End of London the same year. The UK Tour will begin in 2020 and the musical will premiere in the United States next year in Los Angeles.

Real-life Jamie, who first spoke to him in a television documentary in 2011, said he was excited to reach more people through the film.

“Usually as a gay character, you might put a secondary character or something in the background or make jokes, but this movie and show is about putting Jamie at the center of everything. It’s a thing, and it doesn’t happen very often, “Campbell said.

The film and stage production is directed by Jonathan Batterell, written by John McRae, and the music is directed by The Feeling rock band frontman Dan Gillespie Selles. This was the first movie of all three and the first theater show of MacRae and Gillespie Sells.

Shobna Gulati replays her on-stage role as parent character Ray, and actress Lauren Patel plays Jamie’s best friend Pritti Pasha.
