A Long Island special education teacher and lacrosse trainer has been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old student off campus and harassing him while he was at school.

Timothy Harrison, 46, was arrested Thursday on charges of having sex with a 15-year-old girl while working at Babylon High School, according to Suffolk County Police.

A woman was arrested in November 2013 for allegedly having sex with Harrison when she was 15 and 38 years old.

“The announcement of the arrest of a Babylonian schoolteacher for rape today is alarming,” Suffolk police commissioner Rodney Harrison said in a (unrelated) press conference.

“The rape took place outside the school grounds, but the victim stated that there was an inappropriate physical relationship at the school,” he added.

Timothy Harrison, 46, was arrested on Thursday on charges of having sex with a 15-year-old girl who had been working in the Babylonian School District since 2013.

An investigation into Harrison, who has been working at Babylon High since 2013, began last year after the department reported possible sex, the New York Post reported.

Harrison was arrested at a traffic stop Thursday morning and charged with two felony counts of rape and one count of one count of sexual assault.

He was in the First District of Suffolk County on Thursday night and will be tried in the Central District Court of Central Islip on Friday.

Meanwhile, school principal Linda Rozzi said the allegations against Harrison were “disturbing.”

“These allegations are very worrying, and our thoughts are with the victim,” Rozzi said Thursday.

“The district and the board of education have zero tolerance for such heinous acts and take all claims of this nature very seriously. We will continue to be the top priority for the safety and well-being of our students and staff. ”

Commissioner Harrison praised the victim, who was not named because of his age and the nature of the crime, for his courage in speaking out against Harrison.

However, Harrison’s arrest could be the tip of the iceberg, a former student in the school district told Patch.com.

Upon learning of Harrison’s arrest, former student Barbara Maier said there were more predators in the area that police needed to investigate.

Maier, a former student in Babylon, said she had been sexually harassed by a tennis coach and a classmate as a student a year ago.

“At one point, they said,‘ This is the only criminal we’ve stumbled upon, ’” Maier said at the store.

“That’s not true, because each of us has been the victim of a crime.”

The arrest was made a month after Attorney General Letitia James launched an investigation into the district.

Since October, some former students have accused school district teachers of sexual abuse and emotional abuse, some of which come from the 1980s.
