Live updates Biden has denied a draft abortion court ruling

WASHINGTON – WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden says that “fundamental justice and the stability of our legislation require” the US Supreme Court not to overturn the remarkable Rowe v. Wade case in 1973, which legalized abortion across the country.

In a statement Tuesday, Biden said he would work to codify the right to abortion in federal law. Politico has issued a draft opinion suggesting that the court may be ready to set aside the remarkable 1973 case. Roe v. Wade.

The decision to repeal Roe would lead to abortion bans in about half of the states and could have huge consequences for this year’s election.

It is not clear whether the draft is the court’s last word on the matter – opinions often change in the drafting process.

OTHER DEVELOPMENTS:

The Supreme Court is known for keeping secrets. Year after year, in a big case after a big case, there is little more than what judges say during oral disputes, which suggests how they will rule.

This makes the leak of a seemingly draft opinion on a major abortion case a shock to judicial observers.

The draft, published by Politico, says the majority of the court is ready to overturn the landmark 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade, which legalizes abortion across the country.

There have been leaks before, but not on such a scale. Only a handful of people have access to solutions before they are published.

The news that the US Supreme Court is ready to overturn Rowe’s remarkable decision against Wade resonates in the political arena of the Michigan battle.

The state has a ban on abortions before Roe that could take effect and is unlikely to be changed by the Republican-led legislature.

Attention is quickly drawn to the courts, where Democratic Gov. Whitmer and Planned Parenthood have filed lawsuits to overturn the 1931 law.

Developments are also focusing on the November election, when the governor and lawmakers are on re-election and voters can decide whether to include abortion rights in the Michigan Constitution.
