Alex Villanueva of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office called for law enforcement to “suppress the bitterness” at “Ingraham Angle” on Tuesday, claiming that “not many people have loudspeakers.” Acted as perpetuated by politicians encouraging police rhetoric.
VILLANUEVA: It’s becoming too common now. This is the reality our agents are facing on the street. It is the politicians who are members of the supervisory board that people with loudspeakers are screaming at the top of their lungs. In fact, the opposite is in this case, somehow our department encourages this action by trying to pretend to be full of people who are actively harassing the general public .. And that is the problem we have to face. And we need to focus on people turning down their volume, reducing their anger, bitterness, and interacting with each other with respect …
And that’s part of a big lie, and for some reason police officers represent an existential threat to young black men and can’t be far from the truth. And the statistics are [the] Difficult facts on earth show that. For example, unlawful killings like Derek Chauvin against George Floyd are very rare and very rare. In fact, it is rarer than a lightning strike. But you still have politicians who seem to describe themselves as community leaders trying to tell people that they are afraid of the police. [the] The opposite is true. We actually ensure peace, provide that security to the community, and sometimes at the expense of our own lives …
I can tell you that population, [in] County prisons now accurately reflect the population of suspects who have committed violent crimes, murders, rapes, robbers and assaults with deadly weapons. This is a one-to-one correlation between suspects of these crimes and the population of people detained in county prisons awaiting trial. So everyone claims that there is some sort of systematic injustice in it, well, they don’t see the truth in front of them. Violence fills the prison. It’s not some kind of systematic racism or some kind of plan for mass imprisonment, it’s just the absence of simple old violence. We need to put an end to it.
