Killeen HS graduates have been identified among nine people who died in a major accident in western Texas

Coach Tyler James was one of nine people killed in the crash Tuesday night.

ANDREWS COUNTY, Texas – A graduate of Killeen High School, part of nine people killed in a major clash in Andrews County, Texas, on Tuesday.

Tyler James Killeen was a product of ISD. He attended Clifton Park Elementary, Nolan Middle School and graduated from Killeen High School in 2014. He began his first season as head coach of the men’s and women’s golf program at Southwestern University in Hobbes, New Mexico. .

According to the Texas DPS, the fatal crash occurred at 20:17 FM 1788, north of SH 115.

A USW-registered Ford passenger van was traveling north and a Dodge 2,500 pickup truck was traveling south.

For unknown reasons, the pickup truck crashed into the minibus, and as a result, both cars caught fire.

DPS has identified the dead in the accident.

The truck was driven by Henrik Siemens, 38, of Seminole. His passenger was a 13-year-old boy, whose identity is unknown. Both died in the accident.

Residents of the minibus killed outside James are:

  • Travis Garcia, 19, Pleasanton, Texas
  • Jackson Zinn, 22, Westminster, Colorado
  • Karisa Raines, 21, Fort Stockton, Texas
  • Laci Stone, 18, Nocona Texas
  • Tiago Sousa, 18, Portugal

Two other students in the minibus were taken by helicopter to Lubbock. Dayton Price was taken to UMC and Hayden Underhill was taken to Covenant for both hospitals. Recently, it is reported that their condition is serious.

The National Transportation Security Council said it had sent a team of 12 people to investigate the accident.

The minibus was returning from a golf tournament in Midland, where both women’s and men’s golf teams competed.

The team was playing in a tournament in Midland on March 15 and was scheduled to face Midland College on Wednesday.

The Midland College Golf Tournament has been canceled due to recent tragic events.

“All the players from the participating schools and their coaches came together early this morning,” said Forrest Allen, athletic director at Midland College. “We were all shocked to learn of this tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with USW. I spoke with USW Sports Director Steve Appel that all Midland College athletic team players and coaches are ready to help in any way they can during this time.”

Both parents, Randy and June James, worked as coaches and teachers in the district.

The Tyler Lee James Memorial Golf Scholarship was established in his honor by the Killeen ISD Education Foundation.

Tyler was a golfer at KISD and pursued his dream of training at the college level. He was the head coach of men’s and women’s golf at Southwestern University in Hobbes, NM.
