“Jungle Cruise” sails above box office despite COVID concerns

Los Angeles – Despite growing concerns about Delta variants, Jungle Cruise attracted movie fans to the theater to sail over North American box office during the movie’s opening weekend.

The Disney movie, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, surpassed expectations, raising over $ 34.1 million over the weekend. Adventure movies were estimated to be released domestically for about $ 25 to $ 30 million, but despite the surge in coronavirus cases, that number was exceeded.

Globally, “Jungle Cruises” generated a total of $ 90 million, including $ 27.6 million in international box office revenue and more than $ 30 million from Disney Plus.

The Jungle Cruise also generated $ 6.78 million, five times more than the second-placed Green Night. The A24 movie, starring Dev Patel, barely surpassed M. Knight Shamaran’s “Old,” which won $ 6.76 million after taking the top spot last weekend.

“Black Widow” came in fourth after last week of the turmoil between Disney and the movie’s leading actor Scarlett Johansson. The actor sued the studio over the streaming release of the movie. She said she broke the contract and robbed her of potential revenue.

Disney responded to Johansson’s claim that she received $ 20 million in compensation and benefited from Disney Plus revenue.

Matt Damon’s “Stillwater” opened in fifth place for $ 5.1 million, but faced criticism as well. The drama movie was blown up last week by Amanda Knox, who talked about her name being associated with a new movie.

Knox called film director Tom McCarthy in a series of tweets about using her name to promote the film.

“Space Jam: The New Legacy” took first place two weeks ago and then gradually dropped to sixth place. “Snake Eyes” fell to 7th place after the movie starring Henry Golding as a training warrior debuted in 2nd place last week.

“F9: Wild Speed” is the 8th place in the box office. The film raised $ 2.6 million, and six weeks later it totaled more than $ 168 million in the country.

“Escape Room: Champions Tournament” and “Boss Baby: Family Business” conclude the top ten.
