Julio Guerrero: The murder suspect closes him after the judge lowers him

Julio Guerrero reduced his bond from $ 2 million to $ 500,000 last week, which means he needs $ 50,000 to place the bond and release him from prison.

DALLAS – A man accused of murder and multiple shootings, including the shooting death of a 3-year-old girl in a road rage and firing on Dallas police officers, will be released shortly after his lawyer announced his debt on Monday. .

Julio Guerrero reduced his bond from $ 2 million to $ 500,000 last week, which means he needs $ 50,000 to place the bond and release him from prison.

Judge Chika Anyiam decided last week to reduce the debt, which angered the victim’s family and was criticized by the Dallas Police Association.

Guerrero was arrested last June in connection with the murder of Francisco Villanueva. Police say Guerrero killed Villanueva because he collided with her at the club.

Days later, police said Guerrero shot his 3-year-old daughter in the head during a road accident in Dallas.

Guerrero was detained after a nine-hour clash at a house south of Dallas, and police said Guerrero opened fire on police officers.

Villanueva’s family say they were scared when they learned that Guerrero had been released. They wanted to hide their faces for fear of WFAA.

“I am speechless. I’m crazy. How? Why? Why was it allowed? ”

“She didn’t think twice about killing my husband, and she won’t think twice about doing anything else.”

Prison records show that on Monday, March 14, defense attorney Tom Cox, who owns a bond company, paid more than $ 50,000 to secure Guerrero’s release.

“It’s a slap in the face to the victims, it’s a slap in the face to the families of the victims, it’s a slap in the face to the men and women who wear this uniform to keep the city safe, and it’s a slap to every Dallas resident who fears violent crime,” said Dallas Police Chief Eddie. Garcia.

The WFAA also learned after reviewing the state campaign’s financial records that Judge Anyiam had received $ 5,000 from Cox for campaign contributions since 2015.

“He should not be where he is now and should be removed completely.”

The WFAA repeatedly contacted Anyiam to ask if the contributions had influenced his decision, but he did not respond before this report. Cox also declined to comment.

Chief Garcia said the release of violent criminals on bail had become a problem for law enforcement.

“That’s why I testified before the United States Senate about the dangerous and irresponsible decisions of elected judges that do not make our society safe,” Garcia said.

In Texas, it is not illegal for judges to extort money from lawyers. However, the WFAA spoke to several judges, who said it was an ethical question.

If nothing changes drastically, Guerrero will be released on Tuesday morning with an ankle monitor. Police and the victim’s family are not sure if he will be able to escape.
