Juan Toscano-Anderson made the switch from watching the Golden State Warriors to playing for them

It must feel even better knowing that the warriors have been doubted more than ever. What defines this year’s version of the team compared to previous years when players like Kevin Durant played at Bay?

I think those previous Warriors teams were kind of spoiled Warriors fans. I say this as someone who has been a Warriors fan my entire life. It’s not regular, you know. To make it to the final, to be there for several years in a row, that’s not regular. Winning so many championships is not the norm. Warriors fans have been kind of spoiled. That’s not to say anything bad about Warriors fans – they just got used to winning it. Those are some big shoes to fill, teams ’16, ’17, ’18. All these guys were vets, they were stamped in this league. Now we have a team of guys trying to revive their careers. Or improve after injuries, like Otto [Porter Jr.]. wigs [Andrew Wiggins] also trying to get over a hump – there are people who say he’s overrated. Then you have GP II [Gary Payton]myself, D Lee [Damion Lee], all of whom have been trying to make the league for so long. We just have a lot of people with individual goals and journeys to navigate and manage. Just have a look at GP. He’s been trying to break the league for seven years and has finally found a home where he can thrive. It’s good to see man. It says a lot about our depth and how the Warriors develop talent. They have an eye and gave us all a chance.

They also share the dressing room with some of the greatest players in the history of the sport. What game did you absorb by hanging out with guys like Steph, Draymond, Klay and Iggy?

Every game is different, brother. I think what was most important was the playoffs. This is my first time here. I just watch guys like Draymond take his approach to the next level. His attention to detail and his take on the playoffs are completely different. He’s super caged in a different way that he approaches every single game. I can see that now.

And off the pitch?

For me, I learned to accept criticism by observing it. Fans talk shit to everyone including Steph, Draymond, Klay. So who am I to think that fans don’t talk shit about me? That’s something I definitely admire about these guys. You just approach the game with greatness. Everything from how they show themselves in this profession to the people they have around them. They handle all of this well and carry themselves on another level. It’s championship basketball. These guys are all future Hall of Famers. They act and work like this every day.

Yeah, it’s crazy how so many people talk wildly about Steph.

[Laughs] yes it’s crazy But you know people will say anything.

What about the younger boys? How has it watched players like Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga and James Wiseman develop?
