The Daily Beast also accused Tapper of having CNN PR “work overtime” to cover him up.

The network contradicted that account, it said in a statement Tapper followed the company’s COVID-19 protocols “to the letter”.

‘Tests to enter our offices are voluntary. Access to the studios is mandatory. He tried it a little earlier than his show, “said a spokesman for the network.

“When he was informed of the positive result, he asked CNN executives what to do and then went on to say: he masked and isolated the double, did the show alone in a flash studio (in a closed single room) and went home immediately.”

“Everyone in the lead group was notified of the pre-performance call that day,” the spokesman added. “Jake was in direct contact with others, and they were informed.”

Tapper, who has been with CNN since 2012, was one of many candidates to compete for the position after Chris Cuomo’s departure, as the network struggled to find a replacement.

Tapper posted a photo from home that was positive for COVID a few days later - saying goodbye to his basketball team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

The network released 51-year-old Cuomo for defending his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, from numerous sexual harassment charges. Chris Cuomo said CNN President Jeff Zucker was aware of the deal and was preparing to sue the network for the $ 18 million left in his contract.

An insider source revealed this week that the position is likely to go to Tapper.

“It’s Jake, for a long time,” the source told Radar. ‘Star Jake has been up for a long time.

“It’s a logical choice, but if he takes over, it will have a cascading effect, because Jake is unlikely to remain in the State of the Union and will continue to be DC’s chief angel and Washington correspondent. In short, this has screwed up CNN’s programming line.

“The only grace to save it is the end of the year and positioning network leaders as a renewed formation in 2022.”

CNN has yet to officially replace Cuomo in his time slot.
