San Antonio alderman suspect in hit-and-run

San Antonio – San Antonio City Councilman Clayton Perry is being investigated for his possible role in a crash in which he was hit and run near his home on the north side Sunday night, sources told KSAT.

San Antonio police found the District 10 alderman lying in his backyard after a witness to the accident chased the vehicle in question.

Although the report redacted the suspect’s name, date of birth and address, law enforcement sources said Jones Maltzberger and Perry, who lived 800 meters (0.5 miles) from the Redland Road crash site, I have confirmed that there is.

Responding SAPD officers could not immediately confirm that Perry was driving the vehicle and left the location without testing him for sobriety or arresting him.

But after he said he saw an elderly white man get out of the car, the officer was dressed similar to what Perry was wearing.

Officers listed the offense as a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in prison and a $2,000 fine, for failing to stop and provide information in a crash involving more than $200 in damages. rice field.

But without Perry’s ability to prove he was intoxicated while behind the wheel, the case would not be investigated as a DWI.

However, as of Monday night, there were no records of any arrests.

A KSAT reporter who tried to contact Perry’s home found the garage door slightly dented. This was consistent with the “contact” between the door and the vehicle described in the police report.

The city councilor’s Instagram page also shows him in a black Jeep Wrangler that matches the description in the report.

Police provided a redacted incident report by email around 5:30 pm on Monday, but did not respond to KSAT’s follow-up questions.

City officials thwarted KSAT’s further attempts to identify Perry and referred all questions to the San Antonio Police Department.

Perry’s office did not respond to a request for comment from aldermen.

At approximately 9:10 p.m. Sunday night, the driver of a Honda Civic pulled a black Jeep Wrangler out of Jones Malzberger onto wide Redland Road and pulled the front while waiting for a traffic light, SAPD reported. I told the police that I collided with It’s in the left turn lane.

Another driver told police the Wrangler left the scene and left the Civic behind.

Witnesses who witnessed the crash tracked the jeep to where it had stopped, returned to the crash site and told the driver of the Civic, who then relayed it to the responding police officer.

When officers ran the Jeep’s license plate to a location that matched the address they had obtained, they found the car parked in the driveway that was touching the garage door. The jeep was unmanned, but was driving with the driver’s side window closed and the back gate open.

No one answered the door, the officer wrote, but heard moans coming from the backyard, where he found a man in a black polo shirt and bright khaki shorts lying on the ground with a cut on his head. .

Officers wrote that they observed Perry “slow to answer questions, confused about recent events that night, and very unsteady on his feet as he stood up.” but Perry wrote that he was finally allowed to refuse medical care.

But when officers questioned Perry about who was driving, whether he knew the Jeep was involved in the crash, and “other general questions about the events of the night,” the alderman said: Refusing to answer or providing a vague answer to the report.

Officers wrote they could smell “an odor consistent with alcoholic beverages” from Perry, who said he wasn’t driving that night.

Based on information available at the time, the officer wrote that he left the location without further action.

After several attempts to call, the officer wrote that a witness to the crash had called him back. Said he did
