Beijing / Shenzhen (Reuters) -China’s Huawei Technologies aims to develop unmanned passenger car technology by 2025 as the world’s largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer diversifies in the face of U.S. sanctions, executives say Told.
“Our team’s goal is to reach a truly self-driving car in 2025,” Wang Jun, senior executive at Huawei’s smart vehicle unit, told an industry conference.
Dozens of start-ups, automakers, and large tech companies such as Internet search leader Baidu Inc are accelerating the development of self-driving car systems that are expected to make a big difference in the transportation industry.
Huawei has shifted its focus to smart electric vehicles after its global smartphone business has been hit by US sanctions. The former Trump administration has labeled the company as a threat to US national security – accusations it denies.
