How the Three Texas NBA Teams Performed This Season?

The 2020-21 NBA season will live long in the memory thanks to the way that fans were forced to worry more about reduced attendances and health issues than the actual sport for much of the time.

Yet, it has also turned into a memorable season for the action on the court too, so how did the teams from Texas get on in the last season?

The Houston Rockets

It turned into a bitterly disappointing season as the Rockets celebrated their 50th year in the Houston area. Not only did the team fail to win their third NBA championships this year, they also missed out on the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons. This meant that they finally lost the record of the longest streak of making it to the play-offs every single season.

Stephen Silas came in as the new head coach for this season after Mike D’Antoni left the role. However, injuries left the team extremely short of players at various times, as they ended up using a total of 30 players, which is a league record. Things had started badly, with no draft picks, and it just got worse from there.

The Rockets ended with the league’s worst run of results, giving them 17 wins and 55 losses over the season. During this poor season, the team from Houston lost 20 consecutive games in the regular season, becoming only the eighth team in the history of the NBA to put together a run as poor as this.  This was their first season with a losing record since 2005-06 and their worst overall record since the early 1980s.

The Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks’ 41st season in the NBA saw them finish in fifth place in the Western Conference, with a 42-30 record. They clinched their playoff spot with a 114-110 win over Toronto Raptors, having secured the Southwest division a week earlier.

The Mavericks then entered an engrossing battle with the LA Clippers in the play-offs. The team from Dallas won the first couple of games in LA before losing the next two at home. After a win apiece left it all hanging in the balance at 3-3, the fate of the series came down to the decider in Los Angeles on June 6.

The previous 6 games had all gone to the team on the road, so the Mavericks must have been feeling confident about this trip to LA for the final game. However, 28 points and 10 rebounds for Kawhi Leonard helped the Clippers to a 126-111 win that put the Mavericks out of the play-offs.

The San Antonio Spurs

This season marked the first time in the franchise’s history that they went two years in a row without making the NBA play-offs, which happened in their 54th season. The Spurs finished as 10th seed and with a record that stood at 33-39, which was enough to get them into the play-in tournament.

However, their season ground to a halt when they came up against the Memphis Grizzlies. The game ended with a 100-96 win for the team from Memphis, who went on to play the Golden State Warriors in the next stage.

It should be remembered that the Spurs set an NBA record for the greatest number of consecutive playoff appearances a few years ago. This came in the 2018-19 season, when they reached a total of 22 consecutive appearances.

They still have the highest win-loss percentage of any active franchise, but they will be looking to recover quickly from the disappointment of the last couple of seasons. Check here the future NBA odds for the Texas NBA teams:
