Seventeen-year-old Ramiro Hernandez is accused of shooting and killing Lamar High School student Axel Turcios west of Houston.
HOUSTON – Houston police have arrested and charged the suspect accused of killing a boy over his shoes in May.
Axel Turcios, 14, died a day after he was shot May 6 at the 9545 Ella Lee apartment complex near Tanglewilde.
Police said Axel was bleeding on the floor as he told a witness who ran to help him that the suspects had ripped off his shoes.
Ramiro Hernandez, 17, was arrested after someone tipped off police following a news conference announcing a $25,000 reward. Hernandez is charged with capital murder. He was due to appear in court on Monday, but the case has been rescheduled.
“A 14-year-old kid, an innocent kid with his whole life ahead of him, a student at Lamar High School, it’s senseless,” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said at a press conference on May 19. makes me angry.”
Police are still trying to identify two other suspects who were seen driving off in a dark Chrysler PT Cruiser.
“There’s somebody out there who knows something. Please stand up and do the right thing,” Finner said. “Bring some peace and some closure to this family who are hurting so much right now.”
Axel’s father also spoke at that press conference. He believes that justice will come from God.
“No one can escape the sight of God. There’s always someone watching,” Aster Turcios said. “We want justice. We have no grudges. We have no hatred. Much peace and love.”
