Hong Kong Drama Bag Nomination at Golden Horse Awards

Taipei – Taiwan’s annual Golden Horse Awards began on Saturday, with Hong Kong drama being the most nominated for an Academy Award-equivalent Asian award.

The Golden Horse Awards, which began in 1962, are considered one of the most prestigious awards for Chinese films.

This year, the Hong Kong movie “Drift” is based on a 2012 lawsuit involving homeless people in the working district of Sham Shui Po, with 12 awards including Best Director Award, Best Leading Actor Award, and Best Shooting Award. I was nominated.

Two Taiwanese films, titled “The Soul,” “The Falls,” and “Till We Meet Again,” received 11 nominations each.

“The Falls” won the Best Screenplay Award and “Drifting” won the Best Screenplay Award.

Hong Kong’s director Kiwi Chow’s 2019 documentary on political unrest in Hong Kong, “Revolution of Our Times,” won the Best Documentary Film Award.

The film was a controversial topic in Hong Kong, and Chow was accused of ignoring coronavirus rules after authorities stormed a private screening of a documentary in Hong Kong. Under Hong Kong law, personal gatherings are not restricted by coronavirus restrictions.

Chow has since sold the documentary copyright to a European distributor and disposed of all his footage, taking into account the risks of widespread national security legislation enacted in the city following political instability. ..

The Golden Horse Awards were held at the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei and were awarded by Singaporean actor Mark Lee and Chinese-American actress Bai Ling.

This year, a total of 573 applications have been submitted to the Golden Horse Awards, up from 465 last year.
