Hasuke claims spot for Olympic swimming team with 100 flies

Omaha, Nebraska – Teenager Torri Huske broke her own American record in a US swimming trial on Monday night and entered her first Olympics with a fierce victory in the women’s 100-meter butterfly.

An 18-year-old woman from Arlington, Virginia It was a world record pace On the turn, but on the return leg, it faded a bit. Still, Hasuke first touched in 55.66 seconds, breaking the 55.78 national mark set in the semifinals the night before.

Hasuke broke the world record (55.48) set by Sarah Sjoström of Sweden in the Rio game five years ago.

“I don’t even know what to do,” Hasuke said. “I’ve been thinking about this. I feel like it’s not really sinking. It’s really crazy.”

A younger swimmer, 16-year-old Claire Kazan of Cary, North Carolina, took the expected second place for the Olympic team at 56.43.

As a sign of the expected replacement of women’s team guards, young people knocked off 2016 Olympic athlete Kelsey Dalia, known as Kelsey Warrell when fighting in Rio.


Dahlia was fourth with 56.80.

Hasuke is one of the swimmers who benefited from a year of training when the Tokyo Olympics were postponed for a year due to a pandemic.

She will be attending Stanford in the fall.

“I feel like (a year’s delay) really helped me because I was able to work on strength training,” Hasuke said. “It feels like it makes a big difference in my second 50. I tend to fly and die — how fast can I get out and stay?”

The spotlight on the second night of the trial was on Katie Ledecky, who was very popular with women’s 400 freestyles.

The other last Monday was 100 men’s breaststrokes. Michael Andrew passed the best qualifying after setting two American records in qualifying and the semi-finals.
