DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Greenville Independent School District administrators confirmed the high school was evacuated Thursday morning after a suspicious item was found on campus.
Authorities said they took this step very carefully because sweeping was carried out inside the school and on the entire campus.
The suspicious object found in the bathroom looked like a pipe bomb. The Greenville Police Department, the Greenville Fire Department and the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the school and assisted the Plano and Garland Police Departments, which sent bomb units.
The building will be swept by Garland police.
The only students on campus at the time of the evacuation were young people who were assigned to exams at the end of the course, along with several others. The campus is closed for the rest of the day.
Students who went to school late in the morning went home, and buses picked up other students. Parents were allowed into a closed training facility to check on students.
While the campus was closed during the day, all Greenville High School activities were canceled.
