Milwaukee — Four people found killed in an abandoned SUV in a cornfield in western Wisconsin were shot dead, all of whom were from Minnesota, officials said in a mystery case.
Preliminary results of an autopsy conducted by the Ramsey County Autopsy Department on Monday showed that two men and two women had all died from gunshot wounds, said the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators believe that the four residents of Minnesota, found in the countryside of Dunn County, Wisconsin, had nothing to do with the area, nor did the suspects.
Sheridan is about 70 miles northeast of St. Paul. According to Bygd, the SUV was driven to a 50-yard cornfield and abandoned.
Little details have been released so far about the death being investigated as a murder.
At around 2:15 pm on Sunday, someone called an emergency dispatcher and reported that people in the cornfield SUV were not moving.
Officials believe that four residents of the Twin Cities area died within 24 hours of being discovered, “where these victims were randomly brought in.”
“Everyone is a suspect at this point,” he said. “We see all people and all possibilities.”
Asked about his motives, Bygd said investigators provided hints and interviewed acquaintances, but had no answer yet.
“It’s a mystery. I don’t know the motive yet,” he said.
Investigators did not believe the case was related to organized crime, and Bygd said there were no signs that the killings were related to drugs.
Bygd also said he had “very high confidence” that the suspect had left the area by car. He said he did not believe the suspect was a local inhabitant because none of the victims had anything to do with Dunn County.
Victims were identified as Nitosha Lee Flag Presley (30 years old), Matthew Isia Petas (26 years old), Royce Foreman III (35 years old), and Jasmine Christine Sturm (30 years old).
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Petas was Sturm’s half-brother. Foreman was Sturm’s boyfriend and Flag Presley was her best friend.
Sturm and Foreman were raising five children together, the Petas brothers told Star Tribune. Petas posted a photo on Facebook with his little daughter, and it seems that Flug-Presley had two young children.
Dunn County investigators are investigating the possibility of reporting a second dark-colored SUV that may have been involved.
The sheriff’s office is working with several agencies to consider security footage and traffic cameras, Bigd said.
Bygd said he had never seen four murders in Dunn County.
“It’s very rare in the area. Obviously, there have been murders in the last few years, but there’s something of this size — (I) working in Dunn County for the 33rd year. This is my first time. “
