The town’s 41st annual Red River memorial service turned violent on Saturday as gunfire rang out between rival gangs in a packed event.

The number of casualties is unknown at this time, but unofficial reports estimate that up to 10 people were hospitalized and possibly four died. At least 25 motorbikes followed the ambulance to Holy Cross Medical Center.

One of the victims was seen being carried to an ambulance on a stretcher, while the body of another was found on the sidewalk, covered in white sheets.

“Beware, another shootout is underway between the Banditos – a rolling shootout – [Motorcycle Club] Police reported the incident around 6 p.m., according to Taos News.

Local reports said another officer advised over a police scanner that “they’re trying to shut down Red River.”
