Firefighters evacuate the University of Texas dormitory; 3 injured

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Three people were injured when a fire broke out early Wednesday in a Texas university residence, authorities said.

The fire broke out shortly before 6 a.m. in a student housing building at Prairie View A&M University, about 45 miles (70 kilometers) northwest of Houston. The school said the dormitory was evacuated and all residents were counted.

The university said there were three injured, but did not provide details.

Firefighters told Houston television KTRK the fire appeared to be contained in a third-floor hallway. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
