$13.1 Million in Grants to Texas Military Communities

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday that $13.1 million in grants will be awarded to military communities across Texas.

The funding is from the Texas Military Reserve Board’s Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant Program. The grant will help the military community that may be affected by future base restructuring and closure processes.

The funds will be invested in infrastructure projects and other initiatives to increase the value of military installations in Texas and protect jobs in those communities, according to a press release about the grant.

“Today, Texas is proudly home to more than 1.76 million veterans, military and civil defense personnel, and their families. In addition to Army Futures Command, 15 major military installations in communities across the state contribute to the economic add more than $114 billion to the state of Texas, supporting more than 622,000 direct and indirect jobs throughout Texas.Their missions are not only paramount to national security and military success, but also cyber security. We are also at the forefront of innovation in security, space, medical, etc. We are working with the Texas Legislature, TMPC, and the military community to support our military and ensure that these facilities continue to be a unique resource for our nation. looking forward to it.”

This funding round is in addition to the announced DEAAG grant of $15.3 million. Earlier this year. Since 2015, Governor Abbott has awarded more than $111 million in grants to the military community through the DEAAG program.

The following entities will receive DEAAG reimbursements for 2022-2023.

• City of Abilene: $300,000 to Install Security Sensors at Dyess AFB
• Corpus Christi City: $1,611,159 to replace wastewater collection system lines and manholes at NAS Corpus Christi
• City of El Paso: $850,000 to Bert Williams – Iron Dustoff Bypass at Fort Bliss
• City of Fort Worth: $350,000 for NAS JRB Fort Worth’s anti-terrorism protection security system
• City of Killeen: $5,000,000 for Belton Lake Water Treatment Plant at Fort Hood
• City of Kingsville: $1,700,000 for NAS Kingsville’s Kingsville Fire and Rescue Facility
• Tom Green County: $2,000,000 for Fire Station Refurbishment at Goodfellow AFB
• Tom Greene County: $1,295,400 to expand Goodfellow AFB’s Expedition Readiness Training Center

The Texas Military Preparedness Committee in the Governor’s Office advises the Governor and Congress on defense and military matters. TMPC’s goal is to maintain, protect, expand, and attract new military missions, assets, and facilities in Texas.

TMPC also encourages defense companies to expand or relocate to Texas. The committee is made up of her 13 members who serve staggered terms of six years and typically represent institutions within the community.
