Sochi (Reuters) – Georgia’s Morris Kvitera Shibiri beat Russia’s Mikhail Kolyada to win the first figure skating Grand Prix title in Sochi on Saturday, but Russia’s second-place finish will give him the final next month. It was enough to get into the battle.

Kubitera Shibiri, who skated on the medley of Frank Sinatra’s song, fell into a quadruple toe loop, but did most of the other elements of free skating cleanly and won a gold medal with a total of 266.33 points. This is my personal best.

Kolyada, a silver medalist at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics team event, finished second with less than two points overall, following Georgia’s rivals. Kolyada, who finished first in the short program on Friday, participated in the Japan Grand Prix Final next month with that performance.

Kazuki Tomono of Japan came in third with a total of 264.19 points.

The Rostelecom Cup is the last of six Grand Prix events during the Olympic season before the finals in Osaka from December 9th to 12th.
