Chevy Chase created the Weekend Update with Herb Sargent, the writer of Saturday Night Live, and was the main anchor in the first season of the sketch comedy show from 1975 to 1976.

Jane Curtin took over the “Weekend Update” in 1976 after Chevy Chase left “Saturday Night Live” during the second season. She served as the only anchor for several months until early 1977.

Dan Aykroyd joined Jane Curtin during the third season of “Saturday Night Live” from 1977 to 1978 to co-anchor “Weekend Update”.
Bill Murray then co-anchored Jane Curtin’s Weekend Update during the fourth and fifth seasons of Saturday Night Live from 1978 to 1980.
