Emmy nomination SNUBS 2022: Yellowstone is ignored

The nominations for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, which honor the best in television, were announced on Tuesday morning.

Succession, Pam & Tommy, Hacks, Ted Lasso and Only Murders In The Building did well, but several big names were left off the list.

The smash hit Paramount + show Yellowstone – which pulls in over 10 million viewers – was completely ignored by the Emmys.

The series, which has been called anti-woke, did not get recognized in the Best Drama category. And its star Kevin Costner was left off the list completely; he is the top actor on the show and is an executive producer.

Not a big city show: Although Yellowstone is often compared to HBO's Succession - they came out the same year and are both family-business dramas - it breaks the mold for hit series as it's based not on the East or West coasts, but in Montana. It is shot in Utah

Although Yellowstone is often compared to HBO’s Succession – they came out the same year and are both family-business dramas – it breaks the mold for hit series as it’s based not on the East or West coasts, but in Montana. It is shot in Utah.

And unlike shows like Succession that play up current drama in New York or Los Angeles, Yellowstone avoids big city issues and political correctness conflicts, and instead puts a lens on rural America where local businesses are losing wealth and power in a changing nation.

But Succession does well at the Emmys while Yellowstone does not.

Yellowstone has mostly been snubbed by the Emmys – its only nomination was last year for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More).

It did land a Screen Actors Guild nomination this year, however, but failed to win.

Not there: Yellowstone's prequel 1883 did get recognized for its cinematography and music. But the series' stars Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were not on the list for their acting; seen with Audie Rick

So much talent: The cast in December 2021. Sam Elliott, Isabel May and Billy Bob Thornton also deliver sensational performances, but were shut out

And the Emmys freeze out seems to extend to its spinoffs too.

Yellowstone’s prequel 1883 did get recognized by the Emmys this year for its cinematography and music.

But the series’ stars Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were not on the list for their acting even though they won raves for playing a married couple battling the wild West.

There were many other snubs beyond Yellowstone and 1883.

Only the men were recognized on this show: Selena Gomez was not nominated for her starring role in Only Murders In The Building but she was given a nod as a producer as it the Hulu series landed in the Outstanding Comedy Series category.
