Texas woman says she almost died after someone hurled a SPEAR through her car window in ‘random attack’ while she was driving – with weapon missing her by inches

A Texas motorist was left reeling after a spear came crashing through her windshield Sunday in a seemingly random attack that has left police at a loss.

Shavone Canales, a 36-year-old mother from San Antonio, whipped out her cellphone to record the incident’s aftermath to show how close she came to dying by the warlike weapon.

The clip was then posted the clip to TikTok where it raked in more than 8 million views with users expressing disbelief at what they were seeing.

Behind the camera, Canales is heard saying  ‘she almost died’ by the five-foot pike, which stopped within inches of where she’d been sitting. A first-responder is seen expressing similar sentiments as he pulls the spear from her windshield, telling Canales she should count her blessings she’s alive.

Calling the attack ‘completely random’, Canales also says she had been ‘going 40, 45 miles per hour’ when the spear shattered the glass within inches of her face.

Local cops said Tuesday that they have no suspect, but added the case is under investigation as an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

‘I heard an explosion, and I ducked down, and when I looked up, a whole spear was there,’ Canales, who had been driving to a friend’s house at 9:15pm when the incident occurred, recalled to the San Antonio Express-News Tuesday, as her clip continued to circulate.

‘It was a pretty scary event,’ she added in one of two TikToks. ‘I was not expecting that.’

She said she pulled over and dialed 911 seconds after the close call.

The sharp end of the spear made it across almost the entire width of her vehicle, which was struck as it passed the Best Western Hotel at 8669 Interstate 10 as Canales was about to merge onto the highway.

One clip – in which the Texas mom remarks to her more than 5,000 followers how ‘she almost died’ – shows the weapon still lodged in the same place it had stopped during the scare.

Calling the attack 'completely random', she is also heard commenting on her still-at-large assailant's marksmanship - noting that she had been 'going 40, 45 miles per hour,' and that the spear still had come within inches of her face

‘So yeah, guys I almost died,’ Canales says.

‘Someone threw a spear through my car tonight, and I just thought I’d show y’all how bad it is.

‘It was not road rage or anything. This was unprovoked and just completely random.’

In her second video, an officer from the San Antonio Police Department is seen struggling to remove the weapon, after Canales said she waited at the side of the road for law enforcement to arrive.

‘That is crazy,’ the officer says, before adding: ‘You could have died.’

As officers have still yet to make an arrest, she also theorized that whoever threw the hunting weapon must have had some type of experience.

‘I was going 40, 45 miles per hour. Their precision on that was pretty insane.’

While she herself was remarkably unscathed, Canales said she will have to fork over more than $400 for a replacement windshield.

The San Antonio Police Department said Tuesday they have yet to identify a suspect in the case.

The incident comes amid a period of pronounced crime in the South Texas city.

Currently, the state boasts a violent crime rate of 735 incidents per 100,000 people, compared to the corresponding rate from the notoriously crime-ridden Golden State, which is roughly 447 per 100,000 people.

For reference, the US average for violent crime is roughly 388 per 100,000 people.

Moreover, the city – like several others – also saw an increase in overall crime during the pandemic and in 2022, a trend that so far has looked to persist throughout the first half of 2023.

Despite this, Canales said she remains hopeful that officers will locate whoever is responsible for the spear attack – if they don’t turn themselves in first.

‘I just hope somebody comes forward,’ she told Express-News Tuesday. ‘If it wasn’t me, it would have been somebody else. I am just hoping now that it’s getting enough attention that they won’t attempt this again.’
