New York City Fire Department Deputy Chief Kevin Murphy said: “Just after 7:00 p.m., we received a call that a major vehicle accident had occurred at the intersection of 223rd and 1st Avenues.

A source told Eyewitness News that an MTA bus had the right of way at the intersection, but the tour bus ignored the red light and collided with the MTA.
“Once the first two units arrived, they found two buses in what appeared to be a serious accident, compounded by the fact that one of them was a double-decker.”
Deputy Chief Paul Hopper said, “EMS operations are going well.”
“We had some small issues. A double-decker bus crashed through the window and took people outside.
“We have a significant number of patients, so far we have transported 18 patients and none have sustained life-threatening injuries.
“We are considering about 63 additional people, but it seems that both buses are almost full.
“This number may fluctuate a bit, but I hope no one else is seriously injured.”
Photographs taken at the scene show the tour bus’s windshield being completely destroyed and damage to both buses.
