Don Jnr and right-wingers see big leaps in Twitter followers after accepting Musk’s offer

Famous right-wing tweeters have seen an increase in the number of their followers since Elon Musk came to power, claiming that Twitter employees have wiped out their accounts.

Meanwhile, leading figures on the left, including Barack Obama and Deputy Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have seen significant declines since the news of Musk’s acquisition.

Donald Trump Jr., who has 7.7 million followers, raised his followers to 87,296 on Tuesday and suggested that the rise was due to an adjustment of the algorithm led by prominent conservative voices before Musk arrived.

He tweeted: “I’m awesome and although I totally deserve to have 87,000 new followers a day, it looks like someone has taken away my account. I’m wondering if they’re burning evidence before the new management enters.

Don Jr.’s account has grown between 5,000 and 10,000 tweets a day in recent weeks, which was immediately apparent in the wake of Musk’s announcement.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also saw a staggering 141,566 people on Tuesday, according to SocialBlade statistics. That is, there is a huge increase in the average number of followers that the GOP’s well-known GOP earns on an average of 5,000 followers.

Musk praised his offer on Twitter, saying it was a “good deal for shareholders” and that “the platform will be a place where free expression can move forward, not create an opportunity to be a tool for enforcing narrative.”

Conservative presenter Dana Loesch, who complained about the removal of the account, raised her followers by about 9,000 on Tuesday.

By comparison, he was gaining hundreds of new followers a day before Musk bought it.

Florida Gov. Matt Gaetz had a boost of 21,430 followers on Tuesday – many times more than the 500 new followers he gains every day.

Conversely, liberal politicians reduced the number of their followers in response to Musk’s announcement.

New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who has 12.9 million followers, was suspended by 20,725 people on Tuesday.

Before Musk bought Twitter, he attracted about 1,000 new followers every day, and is one of the most important progressive voices on the platform.

DANA LOESCH: The Conservative radio presenter raised 9,309 followers on Tuesday - a big boost. He said long ago that Twitter had removed its numbers, and backed up Don Jr.'s theory that employees are terrified of changing algorithms.

Ocasio-Cortez’s progressive “group” member – Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar – dropped his followers to 10,097 on Tuesday.

That’s compared to the hundreds or thousands of new followers he got earlier each day.

And former President Barack Obama … With 131.7 million followers, Twitter is the world leader with 5,063 fewer followers than before Musk’s announcement.

While that figure is a drop in the ocean, compared to its wide Twitter audience, it is very different from the 15,000-20,000 new followers that Obama attracted every day.

MATT GAETZ: The Florida representative also tweeted about the rise in his followers, with 21,430 more people following him on Tuesday - far more than the average day of his account.

A Twitter spokesperson said the incidents are organic. The Liberals have vowed to leave the platform because of Musk’s strong stance on free speech, and the Conservatives have also decided to join and follow right-wingers who admire the announcement.

“While we continue to take action on accounts that violate our spam policy that may affect the number of followers, these increases appear to be the result of increased creation and deactivation of new accounts,” Twitter said in a statement.

A Twitter spokesperson told NBC News that the accounts with the most serious drop in followers were “high-profile accounts.”

And the pattern was repeated a lot: the right wing won, while the left lost.

Georgia’s Marjorie Taylor Greene, a breakaway representative, rose to 41,181 on Tuesday, while her friend Matt Gaetz, a Florida congressman, rose to 24,929.

“It simply came to our notice then. Gaetz tweeted on Tuesday.

Rachel Maddow, the left-wing MSNBC anchor, lost 18,648 followers on Tuesday, while Fox News opponent Tucker Carlson gained 129,873.

The same thing happened internationally: Brazil’s far-right president Jair Bolsonaro rose to a total of 65,268 from 7.7 million, while Canadian left-wing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau dropped to 2,833 and six million.

The ups and downs are likely due to the fact that left-wing Twitter users were shutting down their accounts after Musk took over.

The 50-year-old said he wanted to turn Twitter into a more open platform for discussion, with many suspecting that he could reset Donald Trump’s account and remove restrictions on hate speech.

Taylor Green tweeted a list of those currently banned from spreading misinformation or inciting violence.

“Back to President Trump,” he said.

“Go back to my personal account. Bring Dr. Robert Malone. Bring Alex Jones.

«Back to Milo Yiannopoulos. Bring the abandoned nation. Restore freedom of expression.

‘Bring America!’

Celebrities like Jameela Jamil announced that they would no longer use the platform.

Right-wing social media users can also reactivate accounts they have never used before or sign up for the first time on the platform.

However, Trump Jr. said he suspected there was more to it than that rise.

He said he had artificially wiped out the number of Twitter followers by repeating widespread right-wing speculation in an attempt to downplay their support and influence.

He also suggested that the controls be removed, before Musk could bring in new management to prevent the embarrassing appearance of the practices.

‘Although I’m awesome and I totally deserve to have 87,000 new followers a day, it looks like someone has taken away my account. Are you wondering if the evidence is burning before the new management is introduced? ‘

And Conservative podcaster Dana Loesch held back on Trump Jr. speculation.

“The growth in followers and engagement has been noticeable in recent years after losing large parts (or static number of followers on a weekly basis),” he tweeted.

“I also see the tweets of people I never see and the tweets of other conservatives that I don’t have to follow over and over again.

“It’s too early for Musk to do this, but I’m wondering if anything has changed for those who are trying to reduce their fingerprints as much as possible before the potential for transparency.”
