Deshaun Watson NFL disciplinary hearing scheduled

Deshaun Watsonshort term future with Cleveland Browns can be the focus.

The Cleveland Quarterback will hold hearings next week with NFL disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson, three people familiar with the scheduled meeting told The Associated Press on Saturday.

Watson, who faces a possible suspension from the league stemming from allegations of sexual misconduct by two dozen massage therapists in Texas, will meet with Robinson on Tuesday, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because details of the trial had not been disclosed. in public.

It is not known how long Watson will meet with Robinson.

The hearing is a significant development in Watson’s case as Robinson will decide whether the 26-year-old violated the league’s privacy policy. The league is expected to recommend significant discipline to Watson, which the NFL Players Association will defend in a high-profile case.

ESPN first reported on Watson’s encounter with Robinson, who was jointly appointed by the league and the NFL Players Association in 2020. This is the first case a former federal judge has heard under the league’s revised disciplinary procedures. Previously, Commissioner Roger Goodell handled the matter.

Earlier this week, Watson reached an undisclosed financial settlement in the civil lawsuits filed by 20 of his 24 accusers. The women claimed she had harassed, assaulted or touched them during a session when she was playing for Houston.

The remaining four cases could still be tried, but that won’t happen until 2023.

Watson has denied wrongdoing and said sex with three women was consensual.

The league said Watson’s settlement would not affect its investigation. If Robinson finds Watson violating the league’s privacy policy, he will likely be suspended for several games if not longer.

Robinson is expected to rule before the Browns open training camp late next month.

Cleveland signed Watson to a five-year, $230 million contract in March after convincing the three-time Pro Bowler to waive his trade ban clause and join a team looking to bounce back after a disappointing 8-9 season.
