Del Valle ISD continues to partner with Tesla
AUSTIN, Texas – GGiga Texas, home of Tesla, will hold its grand opening on Thursday with 15,000 guests attending the facility.
Del Valle ISD plans to release students early that day to accommodate traffic.
The school district is five miles from Giga, Texas. District officials said students have the opportunity to work in Tesla or show up in the technology industry.
“The fact that Tesla was in our backyard, probably two miles from the institute, accelerated what we wanted to do,” said Alex Torrez, chief of staff at Del Valle ISD.
Torrez started Del Valle as a senior ISD employee in the spring of 2021. He works on building programs and curriculum with Tesla and the school district.
In the fall of 2022, Del Valle High School plans to add a manufacturing and P-Tech program in collaboration with Tesla and ACC.
“At the end of the fourth year, if the members and the certificate have not been completed, they will be transferred to the ACC. As long as they finish there, Tesla will grant them a scholarship as soon as they finish their certification and as soon as they finish their college degree, ”Torrez said.
According to Torrez, 46 students signed up with Tesla last year.
“I have so many opportunities here for Tesla and so many of my classmates,” said senior Tiffany Rojas, who is taking a robotics class at the Del Valle High School Vocational and Technical Education Center. “It’s so close, it’s hard not to be interested in Tesla.”
“There are so many options with Tesla, maybe I hope I can get one,” said Emmanuel Calvac, a senior at Del Valle High School.
