Los Angeles – Stephen Curry scored 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Golden State Warriors. The Golden State Warriors surprised LeBron James, Anthony Davis and the new-looking Los Angeles Lakers 121-114 at the opening round on Tuesday night.
The defeat ruined the opening night in Hollywood. There, the Lakers became the fourth coldest after superstars James and Davis played brilliantly for three-quarters.
James had 34 points and 11 rebounds and Davis had 30 points and 11 rebounds. The other Lakers didn’t score in double digits.
Russell Westbrook scored eight points in the Lakers debut and shot 13-4.
The Lakers led 84-74 in the second half of the third quarter after the Kent Bazemore jumper, but the Warriors slowly closed the gap.
Curry made three free throws in the last few seconds of the third quarter after being fouled with three pointers, and Jordan Poole and Damionly hit three pointers at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The pool layup with 9:17 remaining pushed the Warriors forward 91-90, and he finished with 20 points. The Warriors expanded their lead to 98-90 before the Lakers closed twice within two points.
However, Curry and Nemanya Bierica each hit three pointers, giving the Warriors breathtaking room. Bjelica scored 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Lee also scored 15 points.
Davis and James dominated most of the game with many new teammates from LA and former league MVPs Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Rajon Rondo, Dwight Howard and DeAndre Jordan.
Los Angeles, which won the NBA title in the bubble in October 2020, was remodeled after losing to the Phoenix Suns in the first round of the playoffs last season. The Lakers had only three players, James, Davis, and Talen Horton-Tucker, who had injured their thumbs.
James and Davis made a 3-pointer and a fallaway jumper. In one notable sequence, James saved the wrong path and flicked to Davis. Davis took the 68-61 lead at 7:51 in the third quarter.
The Lakers, who lost 0-6 in the preseason, led 59-53 in half-time.
