Unfortunately, this week marks the end of the season for five area teams: Alamo Heights Lava, Pospirates, Navarro Panthers, Fredericksburg Batlin Billies, and the No. 1 Brennan Bears.
Bears ran out at Game of the Week in the 15th week.
Lake Travis 42, Brennan 17
Brennan (13-1) knew what to expect from a perennial football force like Lake Travis (12-2). Unfortunately, due to a series of high penalties and turnovers, the Bears couldn’t get it close.
The Cavaliers won the opening coin toss, postponed to the second half, stopped Brennan’s first drive, and marched right on the field for the game’s opening touchdown and a 7-0 lead at the beginning of the first quarter.Bears seemed ready to reply on the next drive, but the illegal procedure Ashton du Bose The touchdown pass and Brennan’s drive missed the field goal. Lake Travis quickly found two end zones of possession, highlighting an astonishing 32-yard touchdown run. Derrick Johnson It gave the Cavaliers an overwhelming 21-0 lead. The long completion helped set up the kicker Devin Thompson Brennan was put on the board with a 30-yard field goal in 27 seconds in the first half, but the Bears entered half-time 21-3.
Things didn’t get easier in the second half. The Cavaliers defense arrived in Dubosse in search of a stripsack and intercepted him on a series of drives. He then turned both of these turnovers into points to take a 35-3 lead into the fourth quarter. In their honor, the Bears continued to fight throughout the game. Dubose was first found Chase Campbell For a score of 5 yards, and connected with his brother Aaron Duboise With an impressive 58-yard touchdown pass. Ashton completed 10 passes for 228 yards and their two scores.
In the end, the Bears’ fourth quarter 14 points proved superficial. Saturday was Lake Travis Day. Well, Brennan returns to the drawing board after a memorable season.
CUERO 35, NAVARRO 28
When these two teams met for the first time, Navarro won the field goal in the second half of the Instant Classic. The rematch in the 15th week was equally memorable, and Cuero regained the right to brag in his renowned rivalry.
Both teams touched down the first half back and forth and entered a break with a draw of 14. Navarro seemed to take control in the second half of the third quarter by running back at a stunning delay counter. Antoin MebaneRaced into the pristine end zone for a 23-yard touchdown and a 20-14 Panther lead. Mebane played a monster game and finished with 23 carries in 251 yards and 3 TDs. However, Cuero went back by scoring the next 14 points.Quarterback Jerry Rossett found Seiler Jones 48-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the final play of the third quarter, and Tycen Williams With a score of 7 yards towards the end zone, the Gobler’s topped 28-20 in the second half of the fourth. 90 seconds later, Navarro’s Colton Chamber of Commerce I tied it with a 40-yard touchdown run and a 2-point conversion.
Cuero regained the ball at 2:19, leaving regulation. They took less than two minutes to get the lead back.Rosset hit Revlon Johnson Striding a 44-yard bomb with 23 ticks remaining in regulation, Gobblers rose 35-28. With Navarro’s last possession, Johnson was to intercept the game. As a result, Cuero snaps three consecutive losses to the Panthers and advances to the Class 4A Division II State Semifinal for the first time since winning everything in 2018.
Shinner 55, Refugeo 14
A quick glance at the final score shows what happened on the grid irons at Victoria Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.
Defending Class 2A Division I State Champion Commandess owns the Line of Scrimmage and has won a 35-7 lead thanks to the star’s running back. Dalton and Doug Brooks.. Dalton found the end zone six times. This included a two-yard score that hurdles the defender at the goal line, and Doug scored twice with a 41-point rout. Anyway, Shiner rushed 587 yards, averaging over 14 yards per carry.
Shiner has scored over 55 points in all four playoff games. Let’s sink it for a moment.
FALLS CITY 34, BURTON 20
Batlin Beaver will return to the Class 2A Division II Semifinals for the fourth consecutive year.
Second consecutive season under the head coach Mark Kirchhoff, Falls City passed Burton and launched a total of 402 yards of attack. The ground game continued to be beaver bread and butter, collecting 343 yards of rush yards.Senior Luke Schaffer He led with 18 carries of almost 150 yards and 3 TDs. Meanwhile, the defense held down the Panthers, limiting the first half to 77 yards.
Next is another crack in Mart in the state semifinals. The Panthers have finished their beaver season in each of the last three years. Falls City will consider flipping the script in 2021.
Looking at the box scores of Alamo Heights football games throughout the season, three names usually stand out.Quarterback James Sobay, Run back George Fresher And wide receiver Let Andersen.. Together, Flesher and Andersen accounted for more than half of the aggressive production of Mules in 2021.
The team knew where the ball was heading. They still couldn’t stop it.
The same song was true for the fourth round match between Alamo Heights and Liberty Hill on Friday night.Andersen was a beast Also, Sobey made 182 yards and 4 touchdowns in 11 of the 19 completions. He was the only mule receiver to find the end zone and did it in different ways. The first was a 30-yard bomb, then a one-legged jump over the defender along the border with an 18-yard grab. With this season’s Alamo Heights cover, it’s become commonplace to see Andersen make incredible catches on highlight reels, and the playoffs were no exception.
The mule’s memorable run ended with a 43-40 shootout loss at San Marcos. Sobey and Flesher are two representatives of the senior class who say goodbye and leave a lasting legacy. However, Andersen is a junior. If that is possible, he will have an even bigger goal on his back next season. This year it didn’t slow him down at all. Personally, I’m looking forward to what he’s doing in 2022.
