The Memphis Fire Department relieved three staff members of its staff after failing to help the dying Tyre Nichols.

In a statement released by Fire Chief Gina Sweat on Monday, she said three fire department employees “violated numerous policies and protocols.”

“Their actions or omissions at the scene that night did not meet the expectations of the Memphis Fire Department and do not reflect the excellent service that the men and women of the Memphis Fire Department provide in our community every day. said Sweat.

Two emergency medical technicians, Robert Long and Jameel Sandridge, and Lt. The three were dismissed after it was revealed that they “failed to meet expectations.”

“In our investigation, two paramedics responded based on the initial nature of the call (pepper-sprayed) and information communicated at the scene, and failed to conduct an adequate patient assessment of Mr. Nichols. We have concluded,” the fire department said.

Police Chief Cerelyn Davis said her office had found no evidence to support the claim that Nichols was stopped for reckless driving. Before Nichols could escape, officers gave him the opposite order and ordered him to the ground. Officers tracked down Nichols and shocked him as he ran in. Before being beaten, he was pepper sprayed repeatedly about 80 yards from his mother’s house. Three days later he died.

So far, seven officers have been fired, along with two EMTs and one lieutenant.

Prosecutors announced last week that five of the seven officers were charged with second-degree murder, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of aggravated kidnapping, one count of obstruction of duty, and one count of aggravated assault.
