FBI searched colleges in investigation of Biden documents, sources say

The FBI has searched classified documents at the University of Delaware in recent weeks as part of an investigation into possible mishandling of classified government records by President Joe Biden.

The search, first reported by CNN, was confirmed to The Associated Press by a person familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity and was not authorized to discuss it publicly. The person didn’t say if anything was found.

The university is Biden’s alma mater. In 2011, Biden donated her 36-year Senate record to the school. According to the university, the documents arrived on June 6, 2012 and released a photo of the numbered boxes being dropped off at the university along with blue and gold balloons.

Under the terms of Mr. Biden’s gift, his records would remain sealed for two years after he retired from public service.

Biden’s Senate records are exempt from the Presidential Records Act, but the prohibition against mishandling classified information still applies.

The White House referred questions to the Justice Department, which declined to comment. A representative from the university did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment.

The university was the fourth known entity to be searched by the FBI following an inspection of his former office at the Penn-Biden Center, where a locked closet was found by Biden’s personal attorney in November. A record with classified markings was found inside, and most recently his Delaware home was found. at Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach.
